I've always loved taking pictures but never had the time to study Photography in school. After I moved to Portland in 1998 my Uncle Nev gave me his old Pentax and I took a night class at the Community College to learn the basics. I started zooming in on the children in my classroom and found such joy in capturing their many expressions and experiences. Even more satisfying was witnessing their delight in seeing pictures of themselves. The albums and posters I created spurred many classroom conversations and was obviously empowering for the children. Their parents always appreciated the shots I sent home.
Families started inviting me over to get shots of all of them together and I discovered how I revel in taking pictures of people who love each other. My style is very informal, I won't have you combed and tucked in, staring at bright lights. I prefer to shoot outdoors or in natural lighting in settings that reflect the family. My easy rapport with young people (and Adults too!) makes for a comfortable, casual session that's actually fun.
I came up with the name "Shots You Want" with the idea of serving folks in a very simple way. I'm offering people quality, interesting, affordable pictures of themselves and their loved ones. I mostly shoot digitally now but still love what the old Pentax can do. Tell me what you want, and we'll create it together!
